Celtic hope to complete a season-long loan deal for Newcastle goalkeeper Fraser Forster on Monday.

The 22-year-old, who stands at 6ft, 7in, impressed while on loan at Norwich last season and has also been farmed out to Bristol Rovers and Stockport.

"He's a big boy, he's come highly recommended," revealed Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

"His age is the only thing going against him because otherwise he's all the qualities you look for."

Norwich had hoped to bring Forster back to Carrow Road but were priced out of a move for the Englishman.

Burnley also made a move for the keeper in July but at that time Newcastle were reluctant to let him leave.

Forster, who will be in Glasgow for a medical on Monday, has yet to play a first team game for Newcastle and is third in the pecking order at St James' Park behind Steve Harper and Tim Krul.

Lukasz Zaluska has been Lennon's first choice keeper this season, with Dominic Cervi providing back-up from the bench.

We need three front-line 'keepers.

Whoever is 2nd (or 3rd) choice should be happy with it, IMO.

Zaluska is 1st, it would seem.

Surely no player would willingly sign for a club to sit on the bench  huh

Down well yesterday in goal, OK he didn't have that much to do if the truth be told, but what he did do, he did confidently  clapping

Forster aims to make his name

http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11781_6374398,00.html

Celtic's on-loan keeper Fraser Forster is aiming to make a name for himself during his season with the SPL giants.

Forster made his Parkhead debut over the weekend and kept a clean sheet in a 3-0 success over Hearts.

It was the Newcastle's keeper second successive start and clean sheet following their 1-0 win over Motherwell and he knows he must maintain high standards.

Artur Boruc had been the club's number one for a number of years and was a firm fans' favourite with the Hoops faithful.

However, Forster is not shirking the challenge of proving himself and is delighted with the first impressions he has made.

Pressure

"Artur was a fantastic keeper and Celtic are a massive club, so there was always going to be pressure to go in there and perform," said Forster.

"It was brilliant for a first game here and a fantastic performance to get the three points.

"It was nice to make the save from (Kevin) Kyle and, with the way we have been told to defend, the lads were around me for the second ball. It's fantastic to keep clean sheets whatever way you do it.

"There has been a massive change of players here and it will take a bit of time for people to get to know each other.

"But everyone did well in this one and, if we can keep it tight at the back, it is the basis for a successful season.

"We defend as a team but if the back five is strong it allows the rest of the lads to bomb on and create chances. We could have scored a lot more."

2 games, 2 clean sheets, can't be bad can it  thumbs up
