BBC News reports..

Two players with SPL team Dundee United have been arrested after two men were injured in a street disturbance.

David Goodwillie, 21, and Scott Allan, 18, were arrested with two other men in Glasgow after the incident in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Strathclyde Police said the disturbance took place in Queen Street Glasgow at about 0400 GMT.

Two men, aged 23 and 22, were treated for their injuries in hospital, but have since been released.

A police spokesman added: "Four men, aged 22, 22, 21 and 18 years, have been arrested and are presently detained in police custody in connection with the incident."

'Disappointed'

Mr Goodwillie, who joined United when he was 14, signed as a professional for the club in March 2005. He is also a Scotland Under-21 forward.

Mr Allan, a midfielder, is in the first team squad for United this season.

The club said it understood that four of its players - Scott Allan, Barry Douglas, David Goodwillie and Danny Swanson - were involved in the incident and that two had been arrested.

Manager Peter Houston said: "I do not wish to make any comments which may be construed as prejudicial as far as the specific incident is concerned.

"However, I will be both disappointed and angry if it transpires that my players allowed themselves to be put in a position whereby they became involved in a disturbance in the early hours of the morning, when they should have been home in bed.

"The players will be spoken to at the earliest opportunity."

A player with SPL team Dundee United has appeared in court after two men were injured in a street disturbance.

At Glasgow Sheriff Court, midfielder Scott Allan, 18, was charged with assault after an incident in the city in the early hours of Wednesday.

Two other men were charged in connection with the same disturbance at about 0400 GMT in Queen Street.

A second Dundee United player, 21-year-old David Goodwillie, was also arrested but did not appear in court.

The procurator fiscal's office confirmed Mr Goodwillie was no longer in police custody, but said the matter remained "under consideration".

Two men, aged 23 and 22, were treated for their injuries in hospital after the disturbance, but have since been released, Strathclyde Police said.
