 Celtic Scarf

Celtic have completed the signing of Honduras full-back Emilio Izaguirre for an undisclosed fee.

Izaguirre trained with his new team-mates on Wednesday after agreeing to move from Motagua in his homeland.

However, the 24-year-old will not be available for Thursday's Europa League qualifier against Utrecht.

Izaguirre, who becomes Celtic manager Neil Lennon's ninth summer signing, will vie with Charlie Mulgrew for the left-back slot in the side.

Celtic's latest recruit featured against Chile and Spain in the World Cup in South Africa, but missed his country's match against Switzerland.

"He trained today," revealed Lennon. "He won't play tomorrow but should be available for selection after that.

"He's a good player. He's strong defensively, he's quick, he's got a very good left foot and he's good going forward.

"He had a good World Cup for Honduras. (Full-back) is an area we've been looking to fill for a while.

"We've taken our time with this one and we think we've got the right one."

Without sounding harsh on the lhad, is this the level of player  Celtic Scarf should be looking at, he has never played outside his native Honduras, and come on let's face it, they are not the in the 1st 100 Counties you would associate with the game of football are they.

Mind you in saying that I hope he proves me wrong

Celtic help Emilio Izaguirre live out his dream

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/c/celtic/8952038.stm

Hoduras left-back Emilio Izaguirre says that, by joining Celtic, he has achieved his long-held ambition of playing in British football.

Previous moves to Ipswich Town and Wigan Athletic fell through.

"Coming to a club like Celtic is a dream come true at last for me," said the 23-year-old.

"I will put the effort in during training every day and play each match with Celtic as if it's the last game of my life."

He secured a trial with Ipswich in 2008 then this summer was close to a transfer from his Honduran club, Motagua, to Wigan as a replacement for Maynor Figueroa.

"There was a chance I could have joined Wigan, but it was only going to be possible if Figueroa left and he didn't," said Izaguirre.

"It's true that when I was younger I went to Ipswich, but I couldn't get the work permit at that time."

Izaguirre, who featured in the World Cup for Honduras, last week made a special trip to Guatemala to ensure the paperwork would not present a problem with a transfer to Celtic.

It means that he is in line to make his debut against Motherwell on Sunday, both sides having crashed out of European football while he was back in Central America.

He admitted he was stunned that Celtic exited European football earlier this week with a dreadful 4-0 reverse in Utrecht that denied them qualification to the Europa League despite arriving in the Netherlands with a two-goal lead.

"I couldn't really believe what happened on Thursday night," said the defender, who has declared himself fit for Sunday. "I would never have thought it could happen.

"Of course European football was an attraction to me coming here, so it's disappointing, but I have many more years here for that."
