Another excellent guess but again wrong. It does however have something to do with another team/country.

This isn't the myth, that they play in green, because it is the colour of Ireland, and it's a way of a thankyou, for while staying neutral during WW2, Ireland still had UBoats hold up in it's harbours  huh

Well you could question if it is a myth or not but ireland were the first team after WW2 to play in Germany. Myth or not that is why they are supposed to have chosen green.
