Could this be the Denis Law story, I think he scored 6 goals in 1 game only for the game to be abandoned for some reason or other, and Man City last the replay  huh

 clapping Well done it was Denis Law.

The full answer is:-
Denis Law, who in 1961 scored six goals for Manchester City in an FA Cup tie against Luton. The match was abandoned with twenty minutes to go because of bad weather, so his six goals didn't count. Luton won the replay 3-1 (Law scored again, making it seven in total), and City were knocked out of the Cup.
