Southend United boss Paul Sturrock is set to head to Europe on a mission to find potential loan signings.

The Shrimpers have made a solid start to their League Two campaign but Sturrock is looking to add more names.

He told BBC Essex: "We're doing a lot of scouting now, I've worked out all the areas of Europe that we're going to be having a look in.

"We're going to be keeping our fingers on the pulse because we might need a few players."

The club's Essex base gives Sturrock access to Stansted airport and the Channel Tunnel, meaning parts of the continent are easy to get to.

"Holland, Belgium and France have easy access now and there's plenty of flights going out to Ireland and Scandinavia," he continued.

"A lot of the leagues are now coming to an end and it gives us an opportunity to make a dossier.

"We're very much set on going out and finding the players we need."

The Southend boss was forced to rebuild his squad almost from scratch in the summer after a number of players were released in order to decrease the wage bill.

Quite ambitious for Southend wouldn't you say.

It seems sort of funny that a side like lowly Southend are looking to Europe for new players  huh
