Chris (Bradford Bantam) has just rung me and reckons with in the next half an hour you will here it announced he is quitting.

He says after the defeat at home to Bury, McCall went down the tunnel then canme back out and has gone around the pitch after applauding all the fans. He says there is something going on at Bradford and it looks like McCall has quit before he is sacked.

Well blow me down my mate Chris got something right for once.
Just been talking to him about it and he reckons Jakes will get a caretaker role if they don't appoint someone before Saturday.

bbc sports

Bradford City boss Stuart McCall has resigned as manager of the mid-table League Two club.

McCall met with joint-chairman Julian Rhodes on Monday to discuss his future after Saturday's 1-0 home defeat by Bury left them 16th in the table.

"It's coming to a stage now where it is time for somebody new to come in. It's just not meant to be," McCall told BBC Radio Leeds after the Shakers defeat.

Assistant Wayne Jacobs is to take temporary charge of the club.

The 45-year-old took over at Valley Parade in May 2007 and threatened to leave at the end of last season after Bradford failed to make the play-offs.

Saturday's defeat by Bury was their sixth at home this season and left the Bantams 12 points outside the play-off places.

And McCall believes the signs were there that it is time for him to walk away.

"I just think it's time now to get a lucky manager in. He might not be the best manager but if he can be lucky that would be good for the club," he said.

"The players have merited more points than we have got this season and we should be ninth or 10th, three or four points off the play-offs and unfortunately we're not.
"I'm hurt because I wanted to be a success here and the bottom line is I haven't been.

"It's not been for a lack of effort and I couldn't have had more support from the players, staff, Julian as the chairman and the fans.

"If there was anywhere I wanted to succeed it was here. I had two great spells here as a player but the dream I had of being a manager and getting success has not come off."

A statement on the club website read: "The club would like to place on record its appreciation for Stuart's efforts as manager over the past two years and seven months.

"During this time he has worked tirelessly and no one is more disappointed that his endeavours have not been rewarded with more success on the field than Stuart himself.

"Stuart will always have a special place in the hearts of our fans for the dedication and passion he has consistently shown to Bradford City, starting with two highly successful spells as a player with the club.

"The board would like to thank Stuart who, in recognition of the financial position of the club, has accepted a settlement in lieu of the remaining period of his contract that is reasonable, affordable and by no means as much as he could have been entitled to."

Just sat at work and read what you put. So nipped on to say you cheeky b**tard. That's last time I ring you from the match with first hand news if your gonna take the p**s.

It's serious stuff this when your club is playing sh*t. He should have been sacked weeks ago but they didn't have the balls cos they're to frightened of fans reaction as he is such a well like player and then manager at Bradford. The way we are going we could be down there with your mob Dave at the bloody bottom if they don't turn it around soon. In all honesty I don't rate our chances against Grimsby at home on Saturday either.

It's horrible to have a playing legend as a manager that is struggling, particularly when they hang on forever. Least McCall had the foresight to do so.

"It's about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It's about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it's about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. About Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could phone home"

Chris, I see Dean Windass is in the frame to take over from McCall, what do you think of that mate?

Don't get me wrong Deano is a great bloke and was a good player but I don't think he's what we need at the moment. If we got Jewell back (which wont happen) short term with Deano as number two to train him in the finer points and bring him on for the following season etc then maybe. I personally think we need a good solid manager who can get us back on track. Set the foundation now. He needs to get the team back playing as a team and getting the results going right. Then build on this for next season.

Local rag has this article on who is in the running....

Quote
Magilton in frame for City job
Former QPR boss Jim Magilton is the latest name to be linked with the City helm.

Interviews for the vacancy began today, although an announcement is not expected before Saturday’s home clash with Grimsby.

Magilton is keen for a quick return to management after his controversial departure from Rangers. And it is thought that he views the short-term role at City as a good opportunity.

The 40-year-old, capped 52 times by Northern Ireland during a career with Oxford, Sheffield Wednesday, South-ampton and Ipswich, took over the Portman Road hot-seat in June 2006.

He spent three seasons as Ipswich boss, missing out on the play-offs by one point in 2008, but was sacked in April last year.

Magilton accepted the poison chalice of the QPR job in June but lasted only six months following allegations of a dressing-room bust-up with midfielder Akos Buzsaky after a game at Watford.

Peter Jackson and Russell Slade are in the frame with other possibilities including Ronnie Jepson, Steve Cotterill, Iain Dowie, Lawrie Sanchez and Accrington boss John Coleman.

But Andy Ritchie, who was on the short-list before Stuart McCall came in, will not be reapplying.

The former Huddersfield chief said: “I did have an interview at Bradford before Stuart got the job and I wouldn’t say I’d never go back in (to management).

“Football is still in my blood but at the moment I’m just enjoying what I am doing and I’m not looking at anything.

“I feel very sorry for Stuart actually. It’s a tough job anyway and he had to lose some of his good players at the end of last season.”
