Port Vale defender Lee Collins has revealed that he is set to sign a new contract with the League Two leaders.

The 22-year-old, whose current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, told BBC Radio Stoke: "It'll probably be signed this week.

"I'm happy here. The club doesn't want to stay in League Two for much longer and neither do I to be honest.

"If we can push on to League One that will be an extra bonus," added Collins, who joined from Wolves in January 2009.

That followed a successful loan spell, and Collins said he had really enjoyed his football since making the move from Molineux to the Potteries.

"I'm happy coming in to training," he said. "I've had times where I didn't want to wake up and come in but I love football at the moment and this is a good place to be."

Collins also praised the club's coaching staff and manager Micky Adams for his progress, and said he sees Vale Park as a place where he can develop as a player.

"Even before the gaffer came in, the likes of Dean Glover and Lee Sinnott helped me massively," he said.

"Then when the gaffer came with Geoff (Horsfield) and Grewy (Mark Grew), they've helped me progress."

Over to you on this one Tom

He's agreed a new contract, subject to signing the deal. As has Keeper Stuart Tomlinson.

Great, great news for all concerned with Vale. Collins being the stalwart in defence for the past two seasons, and Tommo has only conceeded 4 goals in the league, and has kept 5 clean sheets in the process.

"It's about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It's about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it's about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. About Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could phone home"
