Saturday, January 16
Arizona Cardinals @ New Orleans Saints 9.30pm
Baltimore Ravens @ Indianapolis Colts 1am (Sunday)
Sunday, January 17
Dallas Cowboys @ Minnesota Vikings 5.30pm
New York Jets @ San Diego Chargers 9pm

Right then down to the last eight. So who do we think will make the Conference Championship games then??

Personally I think Arizona will run the Saints close and it could go either way. Saints were losing it a bit towards end of regular season and Warner has shown yet again what a good QB he is with the Cardinals. My money says Saints but my heart says Cardinals.
Colts should put the Ravens in their place. Manning is just to good and will sort them out. So Indy for this one.
Cowboys v Vikings is another who knows as Favre can inspire any team as he has shown taking the Vikings to this post season game. Cowboys though just look to be hitting form especially after the performances against Philly. Hard to call but I guess I would like to see Favre do it one more time, maybe cos I'm an Eagles fan but who cares I just think he has it in his locker to do it.
Jets  IMO will lose. I think the chargers will do em. Maybe close but I still think San Diego will win.

What do you all think??

The San Francisco 49ers and the Denver Broncos will play at Wembley Stadium on 31 October 2010, American's National Football League has confirmed.

The 49ers, officially the home team, are five-time NFL champions, while the Broncos have twice won the Super Bowl.

Wembley secured the game following the success of the previous three fixtures that have been held in London.

"We hope to have a second game this season and expect to know within a fortnight," NFL UK confirmed.

Following the success of the NFL's first trip to London in 2007 the league committed to three further games in the UK. The New England Patriots beat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in front of an 84,254 crowd in last year's event.

"The 49ers organisation is excited to be part of the NFL's 2010 international schedule," said San Francisco 49ers president Jed York.

"The international games have been so well received in recent years that it will surely be an exciting experience for our players, coaches, staff and fans."
San Francisco, who regularly attract more than 69,000 fans to Candlestick Park Stadium, will give up a home game and act as hosts for the Wembley clash. Like the Broncos, they finished with an even record of eight wins and eight defeats in the 2009 season.

The 49ers are well-known in the UK because their success in the 1980s coincided with the sport enjoying a sustained period of popularity in Britain.

They won the Super Bowl at the end of the 1981, 1984, 1988, 1989 and 1994 seasons. The team has struggled in recent years though and have not appeared in the play-offs since 2002.

Denver have been more successful over the last decade, but the team has not appeared in the Super Bowl since legendary quarterback John Elway retired having led the team to victory over the Atlanta Falcons in the 1998 edition.

"It's a wonderful, historic opportunity for our franchise and will be an unforgettable experience for our players, coaches and fans," said Broncos president Pat Bowlen.

Jets primed for title tussle
Top-ranked Colts stand between sixth seeds and Super Bowl

Rookie Sanchez takes on Manning

New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan believes his team have a "puncher's chance" of upsetting the odds in Sunday's AFC championship game at the Indianapolis Colts.

The Jets have been the surprise package of the play-offs, defying their status of sixth seeds to dispatch the Cincinnati Bengals and San Diego Chargers in consecutive weeks on the road.

And they have already tasted victory at the Lucas Oil Stadium this season, winning 29-15 in the penultimate round of the regular season, albeit with the Colts resting many of their key starters in the second half.

"We have a puncher's chance like George Foreman would have a puncher's chance," said Ryan, who is in his first season in charge and looking to take the New York franchise to their first Super Bowl in 40 years.

"We don't punch just like anybody. We punch like George Foreman."

Defensive end Shaun Ellis appears set to take his place in the Jets' top-rated defence despite a broken left hand.

Ellis and co, however, face their toughest challenge yet in Indianapolis where they must find a way to quell the NFL's premier passer Peyton Manning.

Change
Manning, recently awarded a record fourth league MVP award, admits he has been surprised by the Colts' success this year under rookie head coach Jim Caldwell.

Indianapolis worked in two new wide receivers, Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie, but still managed to compile a NFL-best 14-2 record in the regular season.

Manning also ended his hoodoo in play-off games following a bye week with a 20-3 success over Baltimore in last week's divisional round.

"It's definitely been a different type of season with so many changes that we had," said Manning, now in his 12th year in the professional ranks.

"Obviously with a new head coach and new personnel it has been a change. A lot of unknowns to start the season.

"It does kind of keep you into every single practice, every single meeting, because it's not a 10-year veteran you're playing with - it's a guy that doesn't know this offence and keeps you involved in going over the small details.

"It's been refreshing for me in many ways as well."

Respect
Ryan has the utmost regard for Manning but added his underdog team are loose, confident and expect to win.

"I've got a ton of respect for the guy. The guy is an amazing quarterback," added Ryan. "He's smart, he's accurate, he's got all the skill.

"He's a great quarterback and a great personality. But getting ready to play him, I don't like him right now. This week I really don't like Peyton Manning.

"The big stage is every day in New York. This will be as loose a team as you'll ever see going into an AFC championship game. We're not afraid to compete against the Colts. We're excited to."

The winner will represent the AFC in Super Bowl XLIV on February 7 against either the New Orleans Saints or Minnesota Vikings, who meet later on Sunday for the NFC title

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner has announced his retirement from the NFL.

Warner, 38, spent 12 seasons in the league after bursting onto the scene by leading the St Louis Rams to Super Bowl glory in 1999.

"It's been 12 unbelievable years, 12 of the best years of my life," said Warner, whose final game was the Cardinals' 45-14 defeat to the New Orleans Saints in the divisional round of this year's play-offs.

"But I want everybody to know I'm just as excited about the next 12, I'm excited about what lies in front of me.

"I'm excited about spending more time with my family and seeing what God is going to do next."

Unusual
Warner's decision brings an end to one of the more unusual NFL careers.

He went undrafted out of college and had spells in Arena Football and Europe, as well as working in a local supermarket, before finally getting a chance with the Rams in 1999.

It was worth the wait as, following an injury to starter Trent Green, Warner led the team to a Super Bowl victory and earned himself the NFL MVP award in the process.

He was MVP again two years later and appeared in his second Super Bowl, although this time the Rams lost to the New England Patriots.

A solitary, disappointing season with the New York Giants in 2004 appeared to signal the end of the fairytale but Warner rediscovered his best form in Arizona.

The Cardinals won back-to-back NFC West titles under Warner's command and reached the Super Bowl last season, losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

He walked away despite only being halfway through a two-year, $23 million contract.

Sorry Dave I can't abide this fecking game, but if I were to pick a side to follow it would be Washington Redskins (because of my love of all things native american) Are they any good, and have they won any major tournaments  huh

The Redskins are not a major force currently but have been. They have won the superbowl three times, the last in 1991.

They are getting better at the moment but sit in what many would say is the toughest division the NFC east along with Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles, & New York Giants. All three teams are stronger than the redskins at the moment. The redskins finished bottom of their division but improved on the previous season.
It will be a few years yet for them to match Dallas or Philly but they are an admirable team to follow.

Indianapolis are favoured to win Super Bowl XLIV against New Orleans in Florida on Sunday.

Bookmakers expect the Colts to win by around four points, and BBC analyst Neil Reynolds said: "I think the Colts are going to win by 10."

The Colts are playing their second Super Bowl in the last four years and have a very experienced team.

But New Orleans boast the strongest attack in the NFL, scoring an average of over 30 points per game this season.

The Saints scored a league-high 510 points and ranked first in total offence. The Colts scored 416 and ranked ninth.

Top 10 New Orleans Saints plays in 2010
In quarterback Drew Brees, the Saints possess the most accurate passer in the NFL this season. But Brees has warned his team against relying on simply passing the ball if the Saints are to succeed.

"You can't be one-dimensional against these guys, because they are too smart for that," said Brees.

"You have to be able to pass and run. If you can do it efficiently, possess the ball, convert third downs, keep them off the field... that's the key for success against the Colts," he added.

The Saints have never won an NFL title and are taking part in their first Super Bowl in their 43-year history.

But coach Sean Payton - who won the NFL Coach of the Year award in his first season with the Saints in 2006 - has turned their fortunes.

"A lot of people expect this to be a high-scoring game. But the two defences that are here have been outstanding in the post-season," said Payton.

"Our defence has stepped up. It's hard to predict how the game will unfold."

New Orleans won 13 of their 16 regular-season games and over-powered Arizona and Minnesota in the play-offs to get to the big game for the first time.

Indianapolis won 14 games during the regular season and came out on top of a tense encounter with the New York Jets a fortnight ago to clinch a trip to Florida.

Colts rookie head-coach Jim Caldwell is not surprised his team has made it to the Super Bowl in his first year at the helm.

"I always believed we had a fine organisation and a fine team. I didn't see any reason why we couldn't continue our previous success."
Despite the abundance of experience on his team, Colts quarterback Peyton Manning has warned his team-mates to expect a very difficult game against the Saints.

"The biggest challenge for me is preparing to play an excellent New Orleans team. This is a team that is extremely tough to prepare for," Manning said, who won the Super Bowl with Indianapolis in 2006.

Manning, 33, led the Colts to Super Bowl victory four years ago but will hope his star defensive end Dwight Freeney is fully recovered from a sprained right ankle.

"It still definitely is sore but it's making progress," said Freeney, who led the Colts with 13.5 sacks during the regular season. "The swelling's down and it's beginning to look like an ankle again."

NFL expert Reynolds believes Indianapolis are in a good position to beat the Saints because of the experience of the team, especially Manning.

"I think both teams are very evenly-matched with lots of offensive weapons," added Reynolds.

"But Peyton Manning will be the X-Factor and will secure a second Super Bowl MVP crown."

Ok underway and after the saints bomb out on their drive, the Colts go down the field but can't find the endzone. They have to settle for the field goal.
