NEW ZEALAND  vs  ENGLAND

ICC World Twenty20 Match details page link is http://cricket.yahoo.com/prematch-New-ZealandvsEngland_3448

ICC Twenty20

High on confidence after their victory against defending champions Pakistan, New Zealand will face in-form England in their last Group E Super Eight match for a place in the semi-finals of the ICC World Twenty20 here Monday.
England tops the group with two wins from two matches and even a loss should not hurt them as they are way ahead of the other three teams on net-run rate. New Zealand, however, need to beat England and stay ahead of South Africa in run rate, if the Proteas manage to beat Pakistan in the first match of the day at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.
It has been an emphatic performance from England as they came up with two convincing wins against Pakistan and South Africa in the Super Eight. But Kevin Pietersen, who scored back-to-back half centuries, will miss the match. Pietersen has returned home to be at the birth of his first child. Ravi Bopara will be replacing him.
'If we play anything like that against anyone, we'll give them a run for their money,' Collingwood said after their win against South Africa.
'The contributions Pietersen has made in the last two games - two Man of the Matches - have been fantastic. His contributions have certainly gone a long way towards getting us into the semi-finals.'
The hope now is that Pietersen will be back by midweek to lead England's batting charge in the semi-finals, if they qualify.
England have also been boosted by the fine form of their spinners, Graeme Swann and Michael Yardy, who took five wickets between them against South Africa.
Collingwood said: 'It's a great combination to have, to see the ball going away from the right-hander and the ball coming in - you need that kind of variation. They are two completely different types of bowlers. Swanny's a normal orthodox flight-and-guile spinner; Yards is a bit quicker but he can still turn the ball and he's dangerous.'
New Zealand would be hoping that the one-run win against Pakistan could turn their fortunes. 'We are proud of what we achieved,' said captain Daniel Vettori.
'Our destiny is in our hands. We know we've got to beat England now and hopefully we can do that.'
Vettori knows that much wuold rely on his fast bowlers Kyle Mills and Ian Butler who produced impressive figures against Pakistan.
'The selection of Ian and Kyle gave us a bit more impetus. We managed to take wickets and kept taking them which makes a difference. The total wasn't enough but we knew if we started well we had a chance,' he said.

England 153-7 (19.1 overs) bt New Zealand 149-6 (20 overs) by three wickets

By Sam Lyon

Eoin Morgan produced another impressive innings as England won their World Twenty20 Super Eights group with a three-wicket victory over New Zealand.

England's place in the semi-finals had already been secured after Pakistan beat South Africa earlier in the day.

Chasing 150, England were stuttering at 60-3 in the eighth over, but Morgan and Luke Wright regained the initiative.

The pair put on 52, with Morgan firing 40, as England surpassed New Zealand's 149-6 with five balls to spare.

It means Pakistan progress alongside group winners England, with South Africa joining New Zealand on the flight home.

But Paul Collingwood's men, so impressive after the rain-affected matches earlier in the tournament, go into their last-four clash on Thursday against the runners-up in Group F, full of confidence thanks to another authoritative display that made it three Super Eight wins out of three.

Despite having already qualified for the semi-finals, captain Collingwood was determined that England maintained their momentum with a third Super Eight win.

And they looked like continuing that with a suffocating display with the ball early on, despite having lost the toss.

Tim Bresnan set the tone with a tight line and plenty of variation on his pace, and he interrupted a threatening New Zealand opening stand when he bowled Jesse Ryder as the Kiwi swiped across the line of a slower ball.

Brendon McCullum kept New Zealand ticking over with a couple of boundaries, punching Bresnan for successive fours through extra cover before taking to Stuart Broad.

But the Black Caps were rarely much above a run-a-ball in the first 10 overs, and Broad took a superb catch just inside the boundary rope to get rid of Aaron Redmond before Michael Lumb took a far simpler catch to account for key man McCullum - both off Graeme Swann.

Scott Styris and Ross Taylor hit the accelerator in fine fashion thereafter, though.

Both were happy to milk the ones and twos on the big Beausejour ground, but mixed in the odd big hit to ensure they consistently hit 10 or more off the over, Styris, the main aggressor, crunching Ryan Sidebottom back over his head and Taylor slog-sweeping Swann for a maximum.

The pair put on 62 runs in just 41 balls before Styris tried one hit too many as he top-edged to Wright sprinting in from the boundary, and Gareth Hopkins chopped on to depart for a single soon after.

Taylor also departed the delivery after slogging Sidebottom over the midwicket boundary as he holed out to Bresnan, and a tight final over from Bresnan restricted the Kiwis to 149-6 when, at one point, it looked like they might target 160-170.

Still, as proved earlier in the day by Pakistan, a total of around 150 was certainly defendable and England were desperate to get a fast start in reply.

Craig Kieswetter provided it with a six and a four off Nathan McCullum's opening over of spin, and after he departed caught inside the circle at extra cover attempting another heave, Lumb continued the charge with a series of confident sweeps and drives.

However, pace off the ball did for England. Ravi Bopara, in for new dad Kevin Pietersen, failed to make the most of his chance as he slapped Styris straight to extra cover, and Lumb's frailty against spin was against exposed as he was trapped plumb in front by Daniel Vettori.

Collingwood fell for only three as he spooned a Styris slower ball to mid-wicket and suddenly England were stuttering.

Step forward Morgan and Wright. The former lashed Styris over wide long-on with a remarkable one-handed slog, and the latter crashed successive boundaries off Ian Butler on the slog sweep as the pair built a vital half-century stand.

Wright departed for 24 off 17 balls when he holed out at deep square leg, but Morgan and Bresnan continued the push in intelligent fashion, the latter heaving the odd four with the former's unorthodox style manoeuvring the ball around the wicket.

Morgan eventually fell when Vettori took a fine diving catch at mid-in, and Michael Yardy holed out for a duck at long-on to cause a few jitters.

But Bresnan finished the job in style, pulling away to the mid-wicket fence for four, as England continued their impressive form in the West Indies.

England    clapping
