David Haye will be at a sizeable weight disadvantage after weighing in three stone lighter than Audley Harrison for Saturday's WBA heavyweight title fight.

Challenger Harrison was the first to step on the scales ahead of the all-British bout in Manchester and weighed in at 18 stone 1.5lbs.

However Haye, at 15st 0.5lbs, will be at his lightest as a heavyweight.

Haye said he was "really happy", but Harrison predicted the title holder could be in a "whole heap of trouble".

The eagerly anticipated bout at the MEN Arena will be only the third time two Britons have fought for a world heavyweight crown.

Defending champion Haye, who weighed 15 stone 12lbs in his last fight against John Ruiz in April, seemed unconcerned by his 39-year-old rival's weight advantage.

"I'm stronger than I was from the last fight, I'm pushing more weights. I've not been cutting corners in the gym, I've done everything right," said Haye, who is making the second defence of the title he won from giant Russian Nikolay Valuev last November.

"Before we started training I was told if I hit all my targets in the gym, if I have a perfect training camp, then I'd come in around 15 stone.

"I've had more energy in the gym that I've ever had before. I've beaten the biggest champion, I'm used to being the smallest guy in a fight.

"For this fight you're going to see a more traditional fight and I'm going to get close to Audley. I'm hoping for the best Audley Harrison."

It was Haye's fans who seemed to win the battle of the supporters as the 30-year-old entered the arena to a boisterous welcome.

The 6ft 3in Londoner wore a baggy white t-shirt embossed with 'No You Can't' in big, bold writing on the front - a riposte to Harrison's adoption of Barrack Obama's Presidential 'yes you can' campaign slogan.

Haye looked relaxed, smiling and shaking hands with former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis before waving to the crowd.

In comparison, Harrison looked the more serious but did take an opportunity to orchestrate his supporters to a rendition of 'Yes You Can'.

And the southpaw was equally bullish about his chances in Saturday night's bout, believing his extra weight would prove significant in the latter rounds.

"If you look at my past career, that's a good weight for me," said the former European and Olympic champion.

"I feel strong, I feel fast, I feel that's an advantage for me.

"It's a good thing for me that he's come in light. In a long, hard fight that's going to be to my advantage and his disadvantage.

"This is going to be about who's the better fighter and I believe 100% that's me."

The two previous all-British heavyweight world title fights were Lennox Lewis v Frank Bruno in 1993 and Lewis v Henry Akinwande in 1997 (both for Lewis's WBC crown).

A Haye K.O. for me.

Would be interesting if it did go to points.

What damage could they inflict if it went the full distance  thinking ?

David Haye retained his WBA heavyweight title with a third-round stoppage against Audley Harrison in Manchester.

Harrison crumbled under a barrage of blows as the all-British showdown briefly came to life after a tentative opening two rounds with few punches.

Haye, 30, clinically took his chance as he floored his 39-year-old fellow Londoner after less than eight minutes.

Former Olympic champion Harrison, 39, had said it was his destiny to triumph, but landed just one significant punch.

The fight had been marketed as 'The Best of Enemies' as the two former friends met in what was called the biggest heavyweight clash in British boxing since Lennox Lewis beat Frank Bruno in 1993.

However Harrison, who has been criticised for failing to build on the promise of his gold at the Sydney Games in 2000, appeared nervy and offered little resistance before the fight was halted one minute 53 seconds into the third round.

"I'm very happy with it. I said to people close to me I would stop him in three rounds and that's exactly what I did," said Haye.

"I put a lot of money on the third round and lot of my friends and family did. I didn't want to let them down by doing him too early."

The beaten older man Harrison, nicknamed 'A-Force', was downbeat and claimed the referee stopped the fight prematurely.

When asked if he would now retire, he replied: "I've got to sit down and reflect."

Harrison boasted a three-stone weight advantage and a two-and-a-half-inch height difference, but Haye's slimmed-down frame enhanced his superior speed.

A boisterous 20,000 sell-out crowd at the MEN Arena booed Harrison into the ring and the jeers continued in a tame opening round, with Harrison offering three southpaw jabs to Haye's solitary body shot and occasional probing.

Referee Luis Pabon called the fighters together to urge them to fight during the second round, though Haye at least landed a hard right early on and two more later in the session before the fight exploded in the third.

Haye jumped in with a right hand and hurt Harrison. With Harrison on the ropes he followed it with a left-right combination which rocked the challenger's head back.

Further attacks to the body followed before he focused on the head once more, unleashing left hooks and straight rights which sent his man to the floor.

Harrison was back on his feet on the count of eight but Haye ran across the ring to finish him off with a huge roundhouse right and the referee called a halt.

Britain's former light welterweight champion Ricky Hatton, who was ringside for the bout, said he expected Harrison to deliver a better performance.

"He's got the height advantage, the weight advantage, the reach advantage and he barely threw a punch," he said.

"Audley works so hard with all the criticism that he's had over the years to get this shot and I think when he goes back and watches the tape he'll be disappointed with himself."

Haye, who was making the second defence of his world title, is now likely to focus his attention on becoming undisputed champion and restart negotiations with the Klitschko brothers - WBC belt holder Vitali and IBF/WBO champion Wladimir.

Adam Booth, Haye's trainer and manager, indicated he would not fight beyond October 2011.

"They (the Klitschko brothers) want a defining fight and David wants a defining fight," said Booth.

"David will be retiring in October next year so they haven't got a lot of time to speak sense. He'll take out Wladimir before summer and take care of Vitali after the summer."

AUDLEY HARRISON could be docked his ÂŁ1m pay packet after his abysmal display against David Haye on Saturday.

The British Boxing Board of Control are considering withholding his purse following his woeful performance against the WBA world heavyweight champion.

Haye won in just 473 seconds of a one-sided match in which Harrison landed only one punch and was booed off by 22,000 angry fans inside Manchester’s MEN Arena.

Boxing Board secretary Robert Smithsaid: “Withholding some or all of Audley Harrison’s purse is certainly something which we will have to sit down and consider.

“It was such a let-down for the 22,000 people at the MEN Arena and the thousands watching at home.

“We have withheld purses in the past, on many occasions, when we feel a fighter has not tried.

“Audley Harrison has not been paid yet, so it is something we can do. It was not a great night for boxing, was it?”

Harrison’s former promoter Frank Warren led the condemnation of the 39-year-old, saying: “Audley Harrison was disgraceful. People say he threw one punch, but I must have missed that! He did not try in any shape or form and that is a disgrace to any fighter who gets an opportunity like that.

“It was always a mismatch to me right from the start.”
