Serie A giants Juventus have dismissed reports that Italy international goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon could join Manchester United.

The 32-year-old had been named as a possible successor to veteran Edwin van der Sar, who may call time on his illustrious career next summer.

Reports in Italy claimed United were considering making an €18million (£15.7m) offer to sign Buffon in January when the transfer window reopens in the New Year.

However, soon after Buffon's agent Silvano Martini labelled the speculation as 'nonsense' Juventus have now stated no talks have taken place.

"I deny any negotiation with United, Buffon is a Juventus player," the club's general director Giuseppe Marotta told Tuttosport.

Buffon, who is first choice for club and country, is currently on the sidelines with a back problem and is contracted to the Old Lady until the summer of 2013.

Look out for Krasic who plays for Juventus, Nedved look-a-like who i think can be better then him. Juventus had a little clear out in the summer with fans blaming some of the players (poulson being one of them) with the failure of recent seasons and they bought in 11 odd players majority of them on loan.

Seems everyone can beat everyone at the moment although i think Milan have the players to win the league

I think Ferguson will go long term with his next keeper, get someone youngish and have a solid number 1 for many many years. Buffon would only be for 5 years or so as hes recently been a tad injury prone

AC Milan moved to the top of the Serie A standings on Saturday with a comprehensive win on home soil.

Elsewhere, there was welcome relief for Roma as they picked up a much-needed three-point haul.

AC Milan sit proudly atop of the table after they brushed aside Chievo 3-1 in their latest outing.

The contest looked to be a tricky one for the Rossoneri, with their opponents also flying high, but they displayed ruthless efficiency in getting the job done.

It took Milan just 18 minutes to break the deadlock, with Alexandre Pato turning in a pinpoint cross from Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The Brazilian frontman then doubled the hosts' lead on the half-hour mark, virtually wrapping up the points.

Sergio Pellissier did pull one back for Chievo 20 minutes from time, but his effort failed to spark a fightback.

Instead, Robinho notched a third for Milan, firing home from a tight angle in the third minute of stoppage time.

Roma were also victorious this weekend, helping to move them out of the relegation zone.

The capital giants will be hoping that a 2-1 success against Genoa proves to be a catalyst for better things to come following a disastrous start to the season.

They looked to be in fine fettle at Stadio Olimpico, with Marco Borriello putting them in front after 34 minutes.

Claudio Ranieri's side then went further ahead eight minutes into the second half when Matteo Brighi found the target.

Rudolf Gergely ensured their would be a tense finish when he slotted home after 78 minutes, but Roma held on to take the spoils.

Cagliari 0-1 Inter Milan
Brescia 0-1 Udinese
Catania 1-1 Napoli
Cesena 1-1 Parma
Juventus 4-0 Lecce
Palermo 4-1 Bologna
Sampdoria 2-1 Fiorentina
Bari 0-2 Lazio

1. Lazio......16
2. Milan......14
3. Inter......14
4. Napoli.....12
5. Juventus...11
6. Palermo....11
7. Sampdoria..10
8. Cheivo.....10

Lazio who struggled alot last season are surprisingly on top, spearheaded by Hernanes who was linked with few big name clubs in the summer but chose Lazio where he has become a massive hit. Don't think Lazio have it in them to mount a serious challenge but with the way Hernanes and co are playing it won't be surprise if they are there or there abouts.
Juventus thumped Lecce and are looking comfortable top 4 contenders, good result aswell with virtually a new team. Palermo emphatically beat Bologna, Pastore scored and he looks a very very good player. Napoli drew away to Catania with Cavani scoring his 5th already this season which isn't bad for someone whos on loan from Palermo.
Eto'o scored for inter which was over shadowed by racist chants...

Inter Milan returned to the top of Serie A for the first time since winning the title last May with a 1-0 victory over Cagliari, but only after the referee threatened to halt the game following racist chanting against Samuel Eto'o.

The abuse did not have any effect on the Cameroon striker, though, and he scored the only goal of the game in the 39th minute to take the Nerazzurri level with AC Milan at the top of the table.

The game had only just got under way when referee Paolo Tagliavento halted play. He had heard racist chants from the crowd aimed at Eto'o and requested an announcement was made over the public address system threatening the suspension of the game.

The calls had clearly not got to the Cameroon international, or perhaps they had inspired him to score the decisive goal with a touch of class. He controlled the ball and turned inside onto his left foot before shooting past Michael Agazzi from 20 yards.

After the match Cagliari president Massimo Cellini said he thought Tagliavento was wrong to stop the game, claiming he had misunderstood the reaction of the fans. "It was certainly an error of judgment,'' Cellini told Rai television. "Racist incidents do not happen here in Cagliari. I can exclude that categorically. Our fans are not like that.''

Serie A leaders Lazio made it four wins in a row by edging out Cagliari as Inter Milan, Juventus and Roma were all held.

Lazio maintained their excellent start to the campaign by holding on for a 2-1 home victory over Cagliari.

Sergio Floccari gave Lazio the lead midway through the first half and the advantage was doubled eight minutes after the break by Stefano Mauri.

Cagliari pulled one back just before the hour mark through Alessandro Matri, but Lazio stood firm to record another three points.

Vincenzo Iaquinta saw a first-half penalty saved as Juventus were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw away to struggling Bologna.

Roma also met with frustration on their travels after playing out a 0-0 stalemate with bottom club Parma.

Cyril Thereau scored an injury-time winner as Chievo Verona posted a 2-1 home success over 10-man Cesena.

Bostjan Cesar gave Chievo a 31st minute lead, but Roberto Guana's own goal in first-half stoppage-time drew Cesena level.

Steve von Bergen was sent off for the visitors in the 88th minute and Thereau pounced for Chievo's winner a minute into injury-time.

Marco Rossi scored midway through the second half to earn Genoa a 1-0 home win over Catania which allowed them to leapfrog their opponents in the table.

Udinese hung on with 10 men to beat Palermo 2-1 at home - a result which also lifts the club out of the relegation zone.

Medhi Benatia put Udinese ahead after just nine minutes and Antonio Di Natale's 54th minute penalty had the home team in command.

However, Andrea Coda was sent off on 65 minutes and Mauricio Pinilla's 83rd minute goal for Palermo set up a nervy finale.

Lecce also picked up a much-needed three points after coming from behind to see off Brescia 2-1 at home.

Andrea Caracciolo put Brescia ahead on 19 minutes, but second-half goals from Edward Ofere and David Di Michele earned Lecce the points.

In the final game of the day, champions Inter Milan had to come from behind to earn a 1-1 draw at home to Sampdoria.

Stefano Guberti's volley from Antonio Cassano's cross opened the scoring just after the hour mark, but in-form Nerazzurri striker Samuel Eto'o poked home with 10 minutes remaining to level things up and earn a point.

Inter are now second in the table, four points behind leaders Lazio, while Samp drop to eighth.

1 Lazio  8 19
2 Inter Milan  8 15
3 AC Milan  7 14
4 Chievo  8 13
5 Juventus  8 12
6 Napoli  7 12
7 Palermo  8 11

Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder has signed a contract extension to remain at the Italian club until 2015.

The 26-year-old Dutchman had been linked with a move to Manchester United after a highly successful 12 months.

He led Inter to the Champions League and Serie A double last season and also reached the World Cup final in July.

"Sneijder became a key player for Inter last season and will be this year, and for many years to come," said Inter president Massimo Moratti.

Sneijder's impressive year also saw him nominated for Fifa's prestigious Ballon d'Or award, given to the world player of the year.

Serie A clubs have unanimously rejected a proposal to reopen talks with the player's association to avoid a strike.

Italian Football Federation president Giancarlo Abete, acting as a mediator, advised setting aside key sticking points in a bid to revive negotiations.

But Serie A president Maurizio Beretta called Abete's proposal "unacceptable", saying all issues should be discussed.

The players' body has warned that strike action will be called if a new deal is not in place by 30 November.

A collective contract between the Italian Players' Association (AIC) and Serie A guaranteeing players' rights expired in the summer.

One of the main sticking points in the dispute is a proposal by clubs to limit the rights of their players to refuse to be transferred.

The clubs want the right to insist that when a player has a year remaining on his contract, he must accept a transfer to a club of equal standing that guarantees him the same financial treatment.

They propose that if the player does not agree to move he must instead come to a deal over his contract with his current employers.

In September, the two sides reached an agreement in to avoid a strike on the third weekend of that month.

Inter Milan chief Rafa Benitez has confirmed that he is likely to make a move for a defender in the January transfer window after Walter Samuel was ruled out for the rest of the season.

Benitez has been linked with Liverpool's Daniel Agger, after Samuel underwent surgery on Tuesday.

The Argentine stopper needed an operation on his knee after he suffered ligament damage, which means Benitez is short of defensive options.

"We will try to do our best until January, then we will see if something could be done, considering Walter Samuel's injury," Benitez said.

The table:

1 Lazio 10 5 22
2 AC Milan 10 7 20
3 Inter Milan 10 7 19
4 Juventus 10 10 18
5 Napoli 10 6 18
6 Sampdoria 10 3 15
7 Roma 10 -1 15
8 Palermo 10 3 14
9 Chievo 10 1 14
10 Udinese 10 -2 14
11 Fiorentina 10 0 12
12 Cagliari 10 2 11
