I'm wearing my poppies again today, and I'll be at the Cambridge memorial on the 11th, as I am every year that I'm here.

One of our local memorials is right outside a pud, and the Landlord takes it on himself to look after it. ASnd if you knew the pub and landlord, you wouldn't mess with it, if you know what I mean.

Just got back.

I was standing next to the lamp-post in the pic.

The rain stopped, thankfully.

Only a couple of hundred of us there (mostly school kids or Uniform) but there should be alot more of everyone on Sunday.

I wanted to do what I always do and light incense and candles but it was far too windy. I'll try again on Sunday.

Had a nice chat with an old fella, a Standard-bearer no less, medals up to his eyeballs. He was the second-last to leave.

I, again, was the last.

Aye, I think so.

The weather was / is shitty but I thought that I had nothing to complain about as no-one was trying to shoot me and if I didn't go to the 'mem I'd feel guilty.

I go every year (apart from when I was in Thailand) and I owe it to my grandads, their mates and the countless others. I'll be back there again on Sunday.

One thing that I don't agree with is the Christian thing (it's mostly CofE here, despite a HUGE Catholic Church just down the road) but I've spoken with the Church fella before and he doesn't mind Pagans here! This is not the time to have a disagreement about religion and we both respect each others standpoint.

The BBC were here again, but it was only radio. Good - I don't want to be on the telly!

Fair dues to the schoolkids, who were well-behaved. Most of them probably have little idea.

Only three coppers here to stop the traffic (one for each road) but they did a good job of keeping the traffic in order for a while.

When it was dead silent, there were grey clouds overhead (a bit like gunsmoke from cannons or artillery) and the cannons in Cambridge fired (there are some - they just fire the powder with no shot). Or it might have been just the one - it's a bit hard to tell with echoes from the buildings. No Church bells.

The only thing that spoiled it was a train coming in from London and some daft cnut on Hills Road who honked his/her horn as the traffic had stopped.

I observed the two minutes in the tractor at work.

Did you know, the leaf on the poppy badges, when worn, the leaf should point to 11 o' clock as if on a clockface, for 11-11-11. Learn something new everyday

"It's about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It's about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it's about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. About Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could phone home"

Disgusting.

Quote

VILE Muslim protesters set fire to poppies and screamed: “British soldiers burn in Hell!” as the UK held a two-minute silence to honour troops yesterday.

Extremists, some covering their faces, waved banners reading: “Islam will dominate” as they gathered near London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Throughout the rest of the country millions united to take part in a solemn tribute to our heroic war dead.

At 11am, exactly 92 years after the Allies signed the armistice with Germany to end World War One in 1918, traffic ground to a halt and a two-minute silence was observed in shops and offices across the country.

But a few minutes earlier the vile group unleashed their sickening protest.

Half-way through the silence they hurled a giant poppy to the ground and set it on fire.

One witness said: “It was a disgrace to be burning poppies on Armistice Day. I heard them shouting: ‘Burn in Hell.’

“They should make it a crime to chant things like that, especially on a day like today.”

But extremist group Muslims Against Crusades, refused to apologise.

They labelled heroic troops “mass murderers” and lashed out against anyone wearing a poppy.

During the hour-long protest they screamed vicious slogans through a loudspeaker.

They declared: “Only a fool wears a poppy on their chest” and “You will never be safe from Islam.”

Organiser Abu Rayah, from east London, said: “This is Remembrance Day and we will never forget the thousands of Muslims dead in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“British soldiers are mass murderers and your politicians are oppressors.

“By wearing poppies, you condone mass murderers.”

Fellow member Abu Asadullah said: “We wanted to upset people and we wanted them to hurt.

“If you hurt for two minutes you’ll understand the hurt we feel every day.”

Last night Muslim MP Khalid Mahmood condemned the protesters.

The Labour MP for Birmingham Perry Barr said: “They have no regard or respect for the people who are prepared to give their lives for the country.

“If they don’t like it they can hop it and leave.”

I was there again today.

About 500-600 folk there. Much more than on the 11th..

Again, I was the last to leave (just after noon). I helped to tie the wreaths around the Mem (so they don't blow away in the wind) afterwards and I lit two incense sticks too. Said hello to my grandads (RIP).

Very emotional.

Excellent parade by the Uniform, etc.... The cannon-fire was perfectly timed (one before and one after the two minutes). Everywhere was silent apart from the guns.

I'm glad that I went again.
