On another forum I use, one of the the other users has had lifelong health problems, leading to a Kidney transplant. He now does a lot for charities, raising awareness and money etc.

I heard that the NHS were thinking about changing the Opt in Donor scheme that exists now, to an opt out scheme, where everyone is a donor at the time of their death, unless they opt out.

I think it would be a much better idea, because with the current Opt in scheme, people put it off and put it off, and never end up registering. This way, people who don't mind, and people that want to give a gift of an Organ to continue somebody else's life.
Because, afterall, and god forbid, you ever were in need of a transplant, and the surgeons found a Donor, you wouldn't put it off.

It also gives those that are total against their organs being used after their death, can opt out, and be reassured that they their wishes are kept as.

Personally, I have no objections to my organs being used, if it saves lives, and brings better quality of life to those that need them.

What do you think?

"It's about the blokes, our men and women of the Armed Forces. It's about Derek, a rugby player who has lost both his legs, it's about Carl whose jaw is wired up so he has been drinking through a straw. About Richard who was handed a mobile phone as he lay on the stretcher so he could phone home"

I think that's a good idea for a consenting adult, but what about a minor  huh

I know if you are unfortunate enough to have a child with a terminal illness, you must think about this all the time. Now say your child is say what 10/11/12 yrs old, and is always in and out of hospital, I'm sure you could bring the subjet up with them, and they would let you act on thier behalf. But what happens if the child who dies is an infant, how can he/she opt out, and how can you expect a parent (who doesn't express immediate feelings about this subject) to make that choice on thier baby's organs.

I'm sorry to say this, but where I don't mind if my organs are used to help others, if any of my children had died as children, I honestly don't think I could have donated thier organs, if they could have been used, I would just feel I had no closure, and that parts of my children were still out there somewhere  huh

Thank God all my Children and Grandchildren for that matter are fit and well  praying

It's great to be back among friends.
