Gillingham's Simeon Jackson set to sign for Norwich

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/norwich/8813575.stm

Gillingham striker Simeon Jackson is poised to join Championship side Norwich City in the next few days.

The Canada international, 23, who has been the Gills' top scorer for the past two seasons, was left out of their pre-season friendly at Dartford on Tuesday.

Manager Andy Hessenthaler told BBC Radio Kent: "Simeon's not here because there has been a development.

"It looks like he's going to go. There will be confirmation by the end of the week I think or maybe before."

He added: "I think it is [Norwich] but I don't know."

BBC Radio Kent understands that part of the deal could involve a swap involving Norwich's Cody McDonald - who used to play for Dartford - but that has not been confirmed by Gillingham.

Team-mate Josh Gowling said everyone wished the striker well on Tuesday when he revealed he had got his longed-for move.

"He's a good friend of mine," said Gowling.

"He came in during pre-season and was a great pro even though there were discussions about him going.

"He obviously didn't play in the friendlies but he put his effort into every training session and I'm glad he's got his moved, he deserved it.

"He's done really well for this club and hopefully he'll go on and have a really good career."

The defender added: "We had a meeting with him just to say all the best and we're really happy for him that he got his move because he has done great for the club.

"He's a nice lad, great pro, comes in every day, trains hard, eats right, his home life is great, he's got a lot of goals for this club so he deserves the move."

Jackson scored 21 goals in the Gills' promotion campaign from League Two in 2008/09 and 18 as they were relegated from League One in 2009/10.

What do you reckon to that Sarah?.

BBC

Paul Lambert has told his Norwich City players they are not ready for the start of the new Championship season.

The Canaries were subdued in a 1-0 friendly defeat to Dagenham & Redbridge on Thursday.

Lambert told BBC Radio Norfolk he was less than impressed: "What I take out of it is we're just not good enough to turn up at any football ground.

"Albeit it's a pre-season friendly, the main thing is to get people fit and to get people ready."

It was the second warm-up match on the bounce where City had failed to find the net, after Tuesday's goalless draw with Stevenage.

Lambert used 21 different players at Victoria Road, with notable absentees being the injured Grant Holt, Steven Smith and Stephen Hughes.

Jens Berthel Askou did not make the trip while defender Zak Whitbread tweaked a calf muscle during the pre-match work-out.

New striker Simeon Jackson added an hour of football to the 45 minutes he picked up against Borough, but once again failed to find his scoring touch.

BBC

Actor, writer and television presenter Stephen Fry has joined the board of Norwich City Football Club.

The announcement was made at a press conference at Carrow Road.

Fry, who will act as an ambassador for the club, said: "Truly this is one of the most exciting days of my life and I am as proud and pleased as I could be."

Fry, who has a home in Norfolk, is a lifelong fan of the Championship club and has often been seen with majority shareholder Delia Smith at Carrow Road.

'Just fantastic'

He said: "Having been shockingly overlooked by successive Norwich City managers all these years as a player, I have come to the sad conclusion that it is probably unlikely now that I will ever be picked to play for the first team."

"But I am happy instead to play my part in another capacity, as that of a proud and passionate ambassador for the great game of football.

"The day may still come when I am needed out on the pitch, I haven't entirely ruled that out, but until then I shall endeavour to serve with enthusiasm and energy, spreading the word far and wide of Norwich City Football Club and the pleasures and rewards to be had as a supporter."

Ms Smith said: "Having one of the club's most passionate supporters who just happens to also be one of the country's best-loved performers join us to act as an ambassador for the football club will be just fantastic."

0 - 2 vs Hull at home on Saturday - a bit of a howler, that.

Good gate though (24,947).

City have scored and conceded the same amount of goals so far this season (home and away) - on that evidence, I can't see them going up or down.
