Derby and Nottingham Forest have been charged by the Football Association for failing to control their players after a mass confrontation at Pride Park.

The brawl broke out at the end of Forest's defeat at Derby on Saturday.

Earlier on Tuesday, Forest boss Billy Davies lodged a complaint with the FA and the League Managers Association against Derby counterpart Nigel Clough.

Davies says Clough kneed him in the back of the leg, but the Derby boss insisted: "It was purely accidental."

Both clubs have until 17 February to respond to the FA charges.

Players and coaching staff from both sides had scuffled after an initial clash between Jay McEveley of Derby and Forest's Chris Gunter while Davies refused to shake hands with Clough at full-time.

"The matter is now in the hands of my lawyers, who are dealing with that," added Forest boss Davies.

Derby won the game 1-0 after a late header from Rob Hulse.
