Dundee United's Paul Dixon expects the disappointment at missing the Scottish Cup final against Ross County to fully manifest itself on the day.

Dixon sustained a broken foot in Sunday's semi-final win over Raith Rovers and was withdrawn early on.

"It will probably hit me more on that big day, but there's no point worrying about it," said the left-back.

"I'll still be around the boys in the build-up and I'll hopefully travel down with them so I should feel part of it."

Dixon missing the rest of the season has come at a bad time for United, with manager Peter Houston's defensive options further limited by the recent injury-enforced retirement of Lee Wilkie.

And Andy Webster will be ineligible for the two upcoming matches against Rangers under the terms of his loan from the Ibrox club.

"I kicked the underside of someone's boot after about five minutes," added Dixon.

"I tried to play on, but it got worse and worse. To be honest, I feared the worst when I was coming off. I suspected it was broken.

"The X-rays confirmed it and the doctor says I will be out for six weeks.

"I've been a quick healer in the past, but it's just a month to the Cup final, so I'd imagine that's a step too far even for me.

"Obviously the timing is terrible, but I'm not the first player to suffer this way."

I'd love to see County win it, but I think the Arabs have it in the bag

The Staggies are doing their best to sell as many tickets as possible. No doubt that they will exceed the 7k that went to Hampden last time. No team news for them as yet.

Ross play in a town called Dingwall, and it only has a population of 5,000 so to sell double that will be a feat in it;s self  clapping

Aye, I'm familiar with them.

I was at Celtic v Ross in the Cup 3rd round a few years back, we won 2-0 thankfully! I met Martin O'Neill on the plane back to Heathrow.  Celtic Scarf  Cheers

Ross County have abandoned their plans for a Scottish Cup final training camp in Spain because of the latest volcanic ash cloud.

The First Division side were due to fly from Glasgow but, with airport closures and the expected traveller backlog, the club have decided to stay in Scotland.

County manager Derek Adams told BBC Scotland: "The players are gutted, but there's not much we can do about it.

"Dingwall's not quite sunny Marbella, but we'll just have to get on with it."

The Staggies will meet Dundee United in the final at Hampden Park on 15 May.

As part of their preparations, the squad were on their way to spend time at a training base in Marbella.

Dundee United defender Darren Dods will miss the Scottish Cup final after being ruled out with a cartilage injury.

The 34-year-old will require surgery on his knee, adding extra pressure to the race to get Andy Webster fit.

Webster has been struggling with a back problem and will be rested for Sunday's league finale at home to Hibernian.

Webster, on loan from Rangers, was withdrawn at half time during Wednesday's 0-0 draw at Hearts but is expected to play at Hampden on 15 May.
