bbcsports

Droylsden have been thrown out of the FA Cup after they were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player in their second-round win over Chesterfield.

Sean Newton scored both goals as the non-league club stunned their League Two opponents in a 2-1 win.

But Chesterfield asked the Football Association to intervene when they discovered Newton should have been serving a one-match ban on 23 December.

Chesterfield will now face Ipswich on 3 January, although Droylsden may appeal.

According to the FA website, any appeal against the decision must be lodged with the association by 0900 GMT on Tuesday 30 December and the appeal would be heard on Wednesday 31 December.

The FA also ruled: "FA Cup prize fund payment of ?30,000 should be redirected to Chesterfield. There is no fine imposed against Droylsden and the club's participation in future FA Cup competitions is not affected."

Dave Pace will be  Shock , but they only have themselves to blame  huh

I actually do have some sympathy with Droylsden. I do think their chairman is an utter idiot but some of what he said is fair.

He claims it is a genuine mistake as they had told the FA which game he would miss as the cup tie replay again had not come about at that point.
He also says that they have won the match fair and square with their own players and it's not like they played a ringer as the player in question was one on their books. He believes they should be fined but not kicked out.

Chesterfield are unfortunately clinging to anything to stay in the cup and saying the rules are in place and it has happened before and clubs have been kicked out. So tough on Droylsden and they should have checked.

I personally think the fairest thing would have been to replay the tie yet again without the player who caused the problem.

Unfortunately it wont happen and rules as they say is rules. So Chesterfield wil progress.

Its the only desicsion that could be made, the fa threw bury out for it. to say it was a mistake then they knew about the bad before, the acknowledged the fa that they knew about the bad.

is it a coincidence, that it was floodlight faliure, 2 mins before a cut off point for a fufilled game, and now to play a player that was banned for replay. This coming from a manager and chairman that called Chesterfield fc cheaters, because the weather abdandoned the first game, and for letting them have a goal in the second game! how can anybody take this guy serious

Wouldn't disagree that you can't take Pace seriously.

Interesting to see what happens because I understand it they have now appealed and that has to be heard this week before the games.

I expect they will stick with their decision and it will be Chesterfield but as the fixtures stand it shows as Droylsden.

The appeal had to be in by today, and the hearing is set for tomorrow.

I think the FA will stick to their guns, they just want this game over with, and let the 3rd round KO.

Its hard to see how they can overturn the the ruling. They can't really have any new evidence, to actually over turn the ruling either.

Droylsden are saying they shouldn't be punchied because of a mistake. but it was clearly started when the ban started etc. its a professionally run club, they shouldn't make mistake. When Rio made a mistake, he was banned for 6 months.
