DARLINGTON manager Mark Cooper has revealed he is close to signing two new players.

Cooper is keen to bolster his squad further after signing forward pair Daniel Powell and Jefferson Louis and he is now in the market for a defender and creative midfielder.

The Quakers are currently on a run of four games without a win, despite going on an eight-match unbeaten run earlier in the season and with several injuries to key players, Cooper hopes to have at least one new signing in the next week.

"Hopefully we will have another player coming to join us, maybe two with a bit of luck," Cooper said.

"One's a centre half that wants to head the ball and organise people and one will be somebody who can create opportunities for the strikers, as we have created the chances for them."

Paul Terry is the latest player to join the injury list after he suffered cruciate ligament damage in Saturday's defeat to Hayes and Yeading and Cooper admits the midfielder will be a big loss for his side.

"He's probably been our main leader this season and has been prepared to organise people and role his sleeves up and we've lost him so somebody else has to come in and do that job.

"If I get the one I want in, Im convinced he will organise people and if people don't do what he wants then they could be in trouble."

It's been a turbulent seven days at the Northern Echo Arena after reports emerged Cooper had quit after last weekend's defeat.

I must say I'm surprised Darlington are not doing as good as I thought they would be doing so far this season.
