Chester City's Blue Square Premier results have been expunged after they decided not to appeal against their Football Conference expulsion.

The move has resulted in Oxford United overtaking Stevenage Borough at the top of the table by a point, although they lose one of their two games in hand.

York drop from fourth to sixth, with Kettering swapping positions with them.

Cambridge and Tamworth will be badly hit in their relegation battle, having both beaten Chester twice this season.

United were eight points clear of the relegation zone, but now sit just two points clear of Barrow, with Tamworth's safety net slipping from 11 points to five.

The decision also means Salisbury's Matt Tubbs is Blue Square Premier's top scorer on 19 goals.

Joint top scorers James Constable, of Oxford, and York's Richard Brodie both scored hat-tricks against Chester, while Tubbs only scored one.

In the league table, strugglers Gateshead, twice beaten by Chester, are the main beneficiaries.

At the top end, Stevenage are worst affected, having also beaten Chester twice, thereby also losing six points - in comparison to their main promotion rivals Oxford and York City, who had played doomed City only once.

Luton Town also benefit, having twice failed to beat Chester this season.

The second of this season's two 0-0 draws between the two clubs proved to be City's last point back on 5 December.

The Conference had recommended that cash-strapped City should be expelled from the league. And, at a vote at Rushden & Diamonds' Nene Park on 26 February, they duly achieved the required statutory agreement of 75% of the Conference's member clubs.

Not good news.

Aint too worried though. Barrow aside (who we just beat anyway) we've got games-in-hand over everyone & (Hayes+Y aside) have scored more than any of the bottom-half outfits.

Certainly not going up but not IMO goin down either.  praying

Eastbourne, F.G. and Grays are still in the worst trouble. Gateshead are in it, too.
