Blackpool must pay captain Charlie Adam performance bonus money from last season which he insisted he was owed, the Premier League has announced.

But its arbitration court ruled that the non-payment of the bonus was not a "repudiatory" breach of his contract.

That means that fears the influential Scottish international, 24, could leave the club as a free agent are likely to now be over for manager Ian Holloway.

Both the player and the club has until Friday to appeal the decision.

Midfielder Adam's dispute with his club centred on an agreement which gave certain staff a bonus for preventing the club from going down to League One last season, which they achieved.

But the Seasiders also sprang a shock when, over and above merely avoiding relegation, they actually won promotion to the top flight.

Adam, who has scored three goals after hitting 18 in the Championship following his move from Rangers, faced the arbitration committee on 4 November to test his entitlement to the 'survival bonus'.
